I think the path here is wrong.  In your original email, you had:

   2009/2/4 01.57 Warning: translation format strings differ in
   /home/vince/services1/share/ratbox-services/langs/ru.lang: [%s]
   'Çàìîðîæåí' %s: %s

Whilst this error is irrelevant to the database problem, it does indicate
that rserv will be looking for the db in /home/vince/services1/etc/, not
/home/vince/services/etc/ (the extra 1 after services is important).

If /home/vince/services/ is correct, I would start again from scratch
(delete the source, and re-extract it), and try that.
